In 750 B.C. Rome's laws were much more different than in 2013. They much harsher and much more violent. let me share some with you, but if you can't handle gory and crucifying facts, well then that's just too bad. These punishments include beheading, drowning in a sack, exile, torture, prison, being thrown in with gladiators with wild animals to watch you get shredded limb by limb, crucifixion, and finally...... DEATH!
But of course there has to be some rules, you can't just chuck someone off a mountain. First of all it all depends if it is a public or private offence. If it is a private offence than you would usually get the stuff that I listed on the top, but if it was a private offence than you would probably have to give up your land. Usually the poor people or what I like to call them, the people with some financial problems would get more of a harsher punishment than the rich people. Now here is a really short clip of an example of what some people had to face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b98Qp2xatUA
Roman laws
To start off Ancient Roman laws had 12 tables which was an ancient legislation that stood at the foundation of Roman laws. After a battle for 16 years with their last king Tarquin the proud, the people of Rome vowed never to be ruled by a king again. The people wanted to be ruled by elected leaders. In 509 BCE, over 2500 years ago, the citizens of Rome created a new government called the Roman Republic. Although many things changed, and much improved, women, children and slaves were still not Citizens of Rome. Only adult free men were Citizens of Rome.
Things did improve under the Republic. About 50 years after the Roman Republic was formed, the leaders of Republic was formed, the leaders of the Republic wrote down many of the old laws, to make sure everyone understood them. History refers to this group of laws as The Twelve Tables because the written laws were organized into 12 sections. These laws talked about property, crime, family, marriage theft and inheritance. It doesn't really matter what they said, although the laws did try to be fair. What matters is that these laws were written down. They were engraved on tablets that you see on your left out of metal and put on display at the forum in the city of Rome, so that everyone could see them. Each law applied to every Roman Citizen, be rich or poor. That was a huge change for the better.
